Draken Harald Harfagre in Kingston 9/10/16

This ship was in Little Falls, but I was working, then Amsterdam (NY), Waterford overnight, then made its way to Kingston. I met 1-cent et al. at the crack of dawn (9:45) so we could beat the masses for the tour.

It was pretty cool - the back story is all here. You have to sell a lot of tours and postcards to afford the trip and the pilotage fees. Our timing was great since it was crowded as the day went on.

Not enough space to get a pic of the entire boat.  The mast and dragon head had been taken off while they traveled the Erie Canal (low bridges) but once in the Hudson, all reassembled.

Good thing, since the dragon head scares away enemies and sea monsters.

Replica of the ancient navigation system - Viking GPS (ha!).  They would release a raven - if it came back, they knew there was no land nearby.  If the bird didn't return, they'd steer the ship in the direction it had flown off, and likely find land.

and of course, how could you ever travel the seas without a uke and a banjo?

Duncan and Anasha made this hilarious video as they missed the boat / clever ad for Tech Valley Center of Gravity as well...
